Michael OConnor is the principal engineer of OConnor Engineering, Inc.  He has 37 years of continuous experience in the fields of structural, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Michael holds California licenses in all four engineering fields and holds the NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator designation. He is court qualified as an engineering expert in all of these specialties.  He personally supervises each and every project undertaken by the company.  Michael investigates a wide range of losses including fires, structural failures, construction defects, personal injury, and product failures. He works directly with large loss insurance adjusters, major utility suppliers, product manufacturers and attorneys. He is the engineer of record for all design projects generated by the company.

Chuck has over 40 years’ trade experience with more than 29 years primarily focused on fire and water damage investigation and repair.  He provides investigation services related to construction defects, water intrusion, mold remediation and indoor air quality.  Chuck also offers scope and cost consulting for large residential and commercial catastrophe repair, including the development of repair plans.

Kirk LuMaye, BSME, PE, CFEI

Mechanical Engineering Associate


Kirk is primarily responsible for failure analysis of the many pieces of evidence that come through our doors, including inspecting, testing and mathematical modeling of the evidence.  Investigation of such failures involves stereo microscope inspection, photographs, measurements and researching available data sources for manufacturers and product alerts.  He also investigates fires in his capacity as a CFEI.  Finally, Kirk retrieves and processes evidence from loss locations using ASTM Standards for collection of evidence.

Chris Leon

Civil Engineering Associate


Chris has more than 15 years of experience as a CAD designer.  He prepares detailed repair plans for all types of commercial and residential catastrophe claims, including fire damage, tree and automobile impact, and structural collapse, and performs site inspections to verify as-built framing conditions for use in plan preparation.  Chris is also currently attending Sacramento State University on a part time basis pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

Kathryn Burns

Engineering Coordinator


Kathryn provides front desk support to clients by answering the phones and providing information when asked about our various services.  She is the liaison between our engineers, external agencies such as attorneys, insurance adjusters and individual homeowners.  She provides support to our experts by coordinating schedules and maintaining correspondence.  Kathryn manages the day to day operations of the company including opening new job files and evidence intake and storage.  Kathryn handles the company’s payables, receivables, payroll and works closely with the company’s administrator and CPA.

Terri D. OConnor

Managing Shareholder


Terri is the administrator for our company.  She is responsible for recruiting employees, preparing and maintaining the Employee Manual and evaluating employee performance.  She also researches, negotiates and monitors our employee benefits such as health insurance, HSAs and 401(k)s.  Terri is responsible for financial and tax planning, working directly with the selected professionals to maximize the company’s financial viability, including resolving occasional collection difficulties.  Additionally, she plans and carries out annual meetings and other business events including the support of local charities.
